Be More Than a Conqueror w/ These 7 Tips!
by Keanisha Johnson; edited by Coren Millikan
If it had not been for God blessing me with such a loving mother, I honestly don’t know where I’d be today. I come from a weird family background. My father and my paternal grandparents were rude to me. They criticized my appearance and questioned my ability to operate as a normal human being. That hurt me for a long time.
My mother knew better. Although she went through some negative things as a child herself, she made sure she found the best church home for me.
That’s when my relationship with God began to grow. I learned that being a Christian has rewards, such as being saved from the pit of hell if you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
My mother also always instilled in me words of encouragement. If it had not been for the Lord blessing me with such a loving, kind mother who knew the importance of having God in your life, I don’t think I’d be sitting here today.
Having such a loving, encouraging mother was great and shaped me in many ways, but now I know that it isn’t a person’s job to define who I am, not even my mother’s. It’s God’s. And God says that I am more than a conqueror! It’s how I overcame the negative mindset instilled in me by my family.
You are a conqueror, too! Keep reading to see how you can live this truth!

The “More Than Conquerors” Verse
Romans 8:37
The most famous verse about being a conqueror is Romans 8 37. In the KJV it says, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.”
Other Scriptures About Being a Conqueror
Isaiah 54:17 (KJV) – “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”
Deuteronomy 28:13 (KJV) – “And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them…”
Deuteronomy 28:7 (KJV) – “The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.”
Proverbs 16:7 (KJV) – “When a man’s ways please the LORD, He maketh even His enemies to be at peace with Him.”
Romans 8:28 (KJV) – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”
More Than a Conqueror Meaning
These scriptures give us a good picture of what it looks like to be more than a conqueror in Christ.
When Romans 8:37 says that we are conquerors through Him that loved us, it is speaking the perfect love that compelled Jesus to die on the cross in order to rise again and defeat death and the power of sin for us. Ephesians 1:19-20 says that the power that raised Jesus from the dead is also available to us to defeat the power of sin in our lives, whether it is our sin or somebody else’s.
These conqueror Bible verses also show us that in order to be a conqueror, we must be obedient to God, serving Him and doing what pleases Him. God doesn’t bless disobedience; His plan is perfect, like His love. If we trust Him and live in accordance with His will, He will help us conquer anything that comes against us.
How to Live Like a Conqueror in Christ
But what exactly does living like a conqueror look like? Here are some lessons I’ve learned about how to walk in the power of an overcomer.
Trust God
Romans 8:37 tells me that I am more than a conqueror. God knew the trials and tribulations I would face growing up. Everybody is different. If your parents aren’t there to support you, trust and believe that God will provide you with somebody to tell you about the goodness of his Son Jesus Christ. Everybody will have their chance to get to know Him. He wants you to talk to Him.
Obey the Lord
Proverbs 16:7 shows us that if we do what pleases God, He will make our enemies be at peace with us. The key of obedience is also apparent in Isaiah 54:17, Romans 8:28, Deuteronomy 28:13 (above).

Don’t Worry About What the World Says
Isaiah 54:17 means that when people come at you with mean, nasty tricks, whether it be on the job or even at church for that matter, they can try to bring you down, but they won’t succeed. That’s why God says we are more than conquerors. The fact that we don’t have to worry about anybody’s negative comments about us or who is out to get us is just priceless!
Pray
When the enemy tried to attack me at my previous job, he caused confusion and turned supervisors against me. That was a rough time, but what did I do? I prayed, and God always made sure I came out on top regardless of what the enemy had planned. He wants you to talk to him when things are good or bad.
A lot of times, people only pray when they need something. If they don’t get what they prayed for, then they get upset. Sometimes the things you want may not be good for you. That’s the Lord protecting you.
Be glad that God will wreck your plans when He sees that your plans are about to wreck you. Share on XSpeak God’s Truth, Not the Enemy’s Lies
Your words are powerful. If you believe you’re a failure and are always speaking negative about
yourself then that’s what your world will become. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that “life and death are in the power of the tongue.” God says you are worthy and good enough. The enemy of our soul (Satan) wants you to doubt that God even hears your prayers. His Job is to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10). You have to tell the devil he’s a liar and stand on God’s truths.
Be Who God Created You to Be
As I said in the beginning, my own family belittled me. Even as I grew older my self-esteem was so down in the dumps that I only cared about my so-called friend’s opinion on how my sneakers looked or if I had the latest stylish clothing to their liking. No matter what I did, I could never get an approval unless I did something for them.
People are miserable nowadays, and if you’re too happy, that makes them not like you even more. It’s almost as if you have to live your life in silent, so that people in your life can stay calm. Jealousy is running rampant.
The good news is we don’t have to worry about what anybody thinks about us anymore.
I am who God says I am. If people don’t like me because of the way I look, how I dress or live my life, I don’t have to worry about it. God loves me. I am a Christian, and I have a relationship with Jesus. People can see God’s favor on my life. They see the blessings and start to wonder what I’m doing that they’re not. This is how the life of a conqueror brings people to Christ.
Sometimes our light might dim people. For example, have you ever noticed that some people can’t even look at you? They’re rude, and every time you come around they leave immediately? It’s not you. It’s not even really them. It’s their spirit that doesn’t agree with yours. The devil works through people. That used to bother me for a long time, but I’ve learn to accept it as reality. And this has helped me be who God created me to be with no apologies.
Keep the Faith
My relationship with God has taught me that if we have faith in any situation, whether good or bad, God will help us and make it work out for our good if we are obedient to Him (Romans 8:28).
Our faithfulness and obedience mean everything to Him.
The Lord will work even bad things out for our good if we remain faithful to Him. I had times at my place of employment where God used my enemies to bless me with extra hours and gift cards. That’s just a bonus – the blessing of the Lord. He makes it rich, and he add no sorrow to it (Proverbs 10:22). We are living in some horrible times today. I need Jesus more than ever today. He’ll protect you and keep you in perfect peace if you believe.
I have nothing to worry about because God has my back. Now, He never said that bad things wouldn’t happen. He did say He’ll hold your hand and help you get through them; just make sure you keep the faith and trust Him.

I don’t have to worry about when the enemy attacks me at my job because I always come out on top without a scratch.
